Rebrand

To overhaul the branding of the Scottish Book Trust (SBT), Scotland's national agency for reading and writing, to create one single identity and message to support the Trust’s continued rapid growth.
A unique organisation committed to the promotion of reading and writing, SBT had developed a vast range of programmes for its various audiences. The task was to create an identity that was instantly recognised by writers, children, parents, teachers and book lovers everywhere, and would provide a cohesive and strong brand platform necessary for further expansion.
Tsuko’s first task was to undertake full and thorough research into SBT’s impact on the different audiences. Focus groups and phone interviews provided clarity on both the use of the name and the variety of audience groups. This informed the hierarchy of the brand and the communication messages, as well as leading the structure for the revised website, and for developing a communications strategy for the re-launched brand.
Tsuko worked closely with the SBT team who narrowed the choices down to the final design that they felt accurately reflected their broad offer. The simplicity of the page turning device represented both the written and read word without containing it in a book as such, at the same time as implying the next phase and future for the organisation’s development. The design was applied to their range of stationery and Tsuko proposed styling for both the website and other promotional literature.
